Delta and Partners Send Letter Urging Attention on Waterfowl in Wake of Spill
Delta Waterfowl and state waterfowl organizations from across the country sent a joint letter today to Secretary of Interior Salazar and the leadership of British Petroleum to urge the long term monitoring of the consequences of the Deepwater Horizon explosion and resultant spill on coastal habitats and waterfowl.
“The Horizon explosion has caused a tragic loss of life and threatens one of richest and most important ecosystems for North American waterfowl.” notes Delta’s Senior Vice President, John Devney.
“This letter from a broad coalition of waterfowl interests is to simply remind decision makers that these marshes are critical to waterfowl and all of us are concerned about the potential damage that the spill may have on ducks and geese, not only today, but well into the future. While the urgent task is to end the ongoing leak, we need to ensure that waterfowl are a priority in the recovery phase,” adds Devney.
