Waterfowler.com’s Online Lodge Expands to 3D Environment
WOODSTOCK, ILLINOIS: The “Online Lodge” has been a long-time virtual home for many waterfowl hunters and Waterfowler.com (WFC) members. The electronic message board system provides a foundation for information exchange and camaraderie between the participants who share a passion for waterfowl hunting.
Waterfowler.com’s programmers and designers “broke ground” today on the building and development of a virtual 3-D hunting lodge in Linden Lab’s digital world of Second Life ™.
“It has always been a dream that the Online Lodge at Waterfowler.com could become a three dimensional space our members could meet and greet in,” stated Darin Sakas, Publisher of Waterfowler.com Online, “and this new project will bring that dream to reality.”
Waterfowler.com members will be able to download the FREE 3-D browser at Secondlife.com, and create and customize a FREE 3-D Avatar, which can teleport to WFC’s virtual hunting lodge and marsh. The virtual log cabin space will include food, fun and drink for gatherings, an indoor shooting gallery and other games. The Lodge will include various links back to WFC’s current web pages, including computer terminals members can sit and access the current forum and hunting report areas.
“There are so many features in development for the new Online Lodge, I hardly know where to begin,” Sakas went on, “We’ll have virtual duck hunting, clay target shooting, streaming audio, video, planned events and custom apparel our members can wear in and around the Lodge.”
The digital world of Second Life ™ provides users with limitless opportunity to customize an Avatar’s look. With thousands of shapes, sizes, skin, hair and clothing choices, WFC members will be able to create their own virtual clone to use when visiting the Online Lodge, or hunting in the virtual “Timber Hole.”
Waterfowler.com’s Online Lodge in Second Life is scheduled to launch on August 1, 2009, with various sneak peek previews for members prior to the grand opening. Project and construction updates will be posted in the current Online Lodge message forum at Waterfowler.com during the development process.
