Newell Cheatheam, President of Newell’s Designs, Katy, Texas and contest calling chairman for the Texas State for the past 8 years, announces that Clint Parker Johnson of Ravenna, Texas using an Echo duck call won the Texas State Championship Sanctioned Duck Calling Contest held at Jewett, Texas on May 17, 2008. Johnson won $1000.00 cash and a stone trophy. Andy Barnett of Centerville, Texas, was second place winner using an Echo duck call won $750.00 cash prize. Third place winner was Brian Hand, College Station, Texas using a RNT duck call won $500.00 cash prize. Other winners won 4th place $250.00 and 5th place$100.00. Johnson will represent Texas in the World’s Championship Duck Calling Contest http://stuttgartarkansas.org in Stuttgart, Ark, November, 2008. If Johnson cannot attend, then Andy Barnett as runner up will represent Texas. Contestants came from Ravenna, Centerville, College Station, Paradise, and Nacogdoches, Texas. Contest Judges for the Texas State and Gulf Coast Regional were some of the top contest champion callers and judges in the nation, including Rick Dunn of Beebe, Ark, owner of ECHO calls and 1997 World’s Champion Duck Caller; Butch Richen back of Sluggard, Ark - Founder of RNT calls and former World Champion Calling Contest; Phil Green II, New Iberia, La- 2008 Miss. Delta Regional Champion, 2007 - 5th World’s Champion Duck Calling Contest , 2006- 2nd World’s Champion Duck Calling Contest; Kip Turner, Humphrey, Ark; and Daniel Duke, Humphrey, Ark. 2008- Arkansas State Duck Calling Contest, and 2004 - 4th World’s Champion Duck Calling Contest.
