Hunt with California Waterfowl on National Hunting and Fishing Day

California Waterfowl, an enthusiastic new partner of National Hunting and Fishing Day, has two camps designed to celebrate the occasion and get women and youth out hunting. Joining Congress, as well as other state, federal and non-profit organizations, California Waterfowl recognizes the important leadership roles of hunters and anglers in fish and wildlife conservation on this day and all year long.

In addition to celebrating outdoor heritage on National Hunting and Fishing Day, California Waterfowl has a wide variety of low-cost camps and clinics throughout the year that offer adventure, a chance to learn new skills, and an opportunity to put delicious local food on the table.

“California Waterfowl is excited to partner with organizations in California and across the nation to promote the hunting traditions and conservation ethic,” explained Dr. Robert McLandress, President of California Waterfowl. "Supporting the hunter and our hunting heritage benefits wildlife and their habitats across the nation and is a key part of our mission."

Denise Wagner, National Hunting and Fishing Day coordinator, said, “With California Waterfowl’s support of NHF Day and what it represents, we’re reaching even more people with our message that healthy fish, wildlife and habitat depend on leadership and stewardship from hunters and anglers."

Through licenses, permits and special taxes on hunting and fishing equipment, hunters and anglers generate $100,000 every 30 minutes -- totaling more than $1.75 billion per year -- for conservation.

Wagner added, “National Hunting and Fishing Day is a great time to introduce newcomers to the outdoors, too.”

On National Hunting and Fishing Day, September 26, 2009, California Waterfowl is holding two events to celebrate the conservation accomplishments of outdoorsmen and women: a Youth Waterfowl Hunters Camp and a Women’s Pheasant Hunt Weekend. Both are designed to assist participants in completing their hunter education class and receive the training needed to be a safe and responsible hunter.

California Waterfowl Women’s Pheasant Hunt Weekend
Date: September 26-27, 2009
Location: Birds Landing Hunting Preserve, Birds Landing, CA
Cost is $150.00 per person
This is unique opportunity for first-time hunters to give it hunting a try for a minimal investment. California Waterfowl is offering its first ever camp for the aspiring huntress to complete the required hunter education class, learn about gun safety and hunter etiquette, then venture out on a pheasant hunt with an experienced guide and a dog. Cost is only $150 and includes a hunting license, upland game stamp, firearms instruction, and lunch both days.

California Waterfowl Youth Hunters Camps
Dates: Two weekends to choose from, September. 26 – 27 or October. 3 – 4, 2009
Location: Grizzly Island Ranch, Suisun, CA
Cost is $100 per person
Youth hunters (age 10-15) will get prepared for the 2009-10 hunting seasons by participating in the California Waterfowl Hunters Camps. Hunter Education, shotgun practice at a trap (skeet?) range, and archery shooting will certify and prepare youth hunters to head afield this fall. Cost is only $100, which includes all meals, overnight lodging, targets, ammunition, firearms and expert instruction.
